The Opportunity - Campus Bookstore Clerk 3 - Part-time, temporary

This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement. Job Classification: Clerk III.

This position requires excellent customer service skills, sales, order processing, clerical duties, retail maintenance, and visual display talent. The incumbent responds to all customer service requests and aims to deliver positive customer experiences. Responsibilities include maintaining an inventory management system, processing online orders, arranging for shipping and receiving of merchandise, completing daily cash, and ordering clothing, stationery, and giftware as needed.

Key Job Functions
Customer Service & Sales:
  • Provides comprehensive customer service to internal and external customers, greeting customers, listening and questioning to ascertain their needs, assisting with textbook purchases, and enhancing the store's service image.
  • Answers telephone calls and email inquiries, resolving customer requests, concerns, or problems.
  • Processes online orders following established guidelines, policies, and procedures, and arranges courier shipments.
  • Maintains knowledge of vendors used by the Campus Store and current trends in giftware, clothing, and related products.
  • Creates visual displays to enhance store sales and reflects available products.
  • Operates POS system for cashiering duties, verifies signing authority, and completes necessary paperwork.
  • Verifies daily receipts, reconciles cash, and performs opening and closing procedures.
Inventory Management & Procurement:
  • Maintains inventory records, verifies stock levels, and generates reports.
  • Verifies textbook adoptions, researches missing information, and reports issues.
  • Places supply orders, compares vendor prices, and ensures shelves are stocked within budget.
  • Handles shipping and receiving, maintains inventory accuracy, and follows up with vendors.
  • Maintains store organization and assists with year-end inventory.
Administrative & Operational Support
  • Supports clerical tasks including maintaining purchase orders, vendor, and customer files.
Health & Safety
  • Adheres to all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of related administrative or retail experience, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Visual merchandising experience is highly recommended.
  • Excellent customer service, organizational, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of POS systems, retail operations, and office practices.
  • Ability to make decisions aligned with the College's interests, demonstrating inclusivity, transparency, civility, and respect.
