Job description

Your Opportunity:

The Alberta Health Services Infection Prevention and Control program is seeking an Infection Control Practitioner (ICP) to join our team. You will work with the IPC team and connect provincially to be a leader in reviewing best practices, advising on Infection Prevention and Control measures, and supporting program leaders and staff in IPC practices focused on patient safety and infection prevention.

Description:

As an Infection Prevention and Control Professional (ICP), you will be a patient safety expert who leads the planning, development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of system-wide improvements in infection prevention. You will serve as a role model to promote the goals of the IPC program within the larger context of the vision and mission of AHS. You will facilitate change through interpretation and application of standards, providing best practice recommendations across the organization to improve patient outcomes and prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs).

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading infection prevention initiatives across various healthcare settings.
  • Providing expert advice on infection control standards and practices.
  • Supporting staff training and education in IPC measures.
  • Monitoring and evaluating infection control practices and outcomes.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to implement improvements.

  • Salary Range: $43.38 - $57.63 per hour
  • Vehicle Requirement: Driver's License and Vehicle Required

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, or Public Health. Other clinical health-related degrees may be considered if curriculum content equivalency can be demonstrated.
  • Minimum of three years' experience in a clinical healthcare setting, or experience and proficiency in two of the following: patient care practice, microbiology and infectious diseases, or epidemiology and biostatistics.
  • Active or eligible registration with the applicable regulatory college (e.g., College of Registered Nurses of Alberta, College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta).

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Recent experience as an Infection Control Practitioner, or completion of an IPAC-endorsed novice Infection Prevention and Control course.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control.
  • Recent experience in nursing, microbiology, infectious diseases, epidemiology, biostatistics, laboratory technology, or public health.
