The Faculty of Education at Concordia University of Edmonton invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Math/Science and STEM Education. We seek a visionary educator-scholar with a passion for responsive, inclusive, and equitable K–6 teaching and learning.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in elementary mathematics and science, along with a strong foundation in STEM education. They will be committed to working with pre-service teachers in areas of differentiated instruction and the development of curriculum that reflects the diverse needs of today’s learners. A demonstrated background in fostering K-6 school and community STEM partnerships is an asset.

Qualifications

  • A completed terminal degree in Education, with a specialization in STEM Education, elementary math / science, preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of successful K–6 teaching experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in STEM education, differentiated instruction, and planning for diverse learning needs.
  • A commitment to reconciliation and to equity, diversity, and inclusion in teacher preparation and undergraduate education.
  • A record of scholarly activity.
  • Experience in serving the educational needs of First Nations, Metis and Inuit communities is considered an asset.
  • Eligibility for Alberta teacher certification is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in STEM education (particularly math and science) and curriculum planning for pre-service teachers working with K–6 learners.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the Bachelor of Education (After Degree), education minors, and Master of Education programs.
  • Support teacher candidates in developing responsive and equitable classroom practices.
  • Maintain an active research and scholarship agenda related to STEM pedagogy, numeracy and scientific instruction, as well as differentiated curriculum design.
  • Participate in faculty governance, academic advising, and service to the university community.

The normal teaching assignment is 18 hours per academic year. In addition, the successful candidate must assume academic service duties and will be committed to growing the diversity of and building professional relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience as per Concordia’s Faculty Association Collective Agreement.
