Job description

About Us

At Agile BK, we’re not your typical accounting firm—we’re redefining the industry with AI and automation! As Canada’s fastest-growing AI-powered accounting service, we’re streamlining bookkeeping and bringing real-time insights to businesses across the country. But what really sets us apart? Our people.

We’re a team of CPAs, bookkeepers, and tech-savvy problem-solvers who are passionate about making accounting better, smarter, and faster. Whether you’re working with a startup, a construction crew, a nonprofit, or a local shop, your work has impact here.

At Agile BK, innovation isn’t just a buzzword—it’s our operating system. Ready to help build the future of accounting?

Position Overview

We’re hiring a Client Financial Controller to lead both the technical accuracy and people development side of our accounting practice. You’ll own the integrity of client financials across the firm, using Agile BK’s AI and review tools to maintain quality, identify issues, and keep our work sharp and consistent.

This role combines deep accounting expertise with hands-on team leadership. You’ll lead the weekly accounting review cycle, sign off on year-end packages, and support accounting staff and CPA students through training, mentorship, and day-to-day decision-making. While Team Leads focus on getting work out the door on time, the Client Financial Controller ensures it’s done right.

You’ll help us raise the bar—on accuracy, clarity, and the way we support each other as a team.

This role requires a Canadian CPA designation and 5+ years experience in both technical review and team leadership.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead the Weekly Review Cycle: Oversee and guide our weekly file review process using Agile BK’s in-house AI dashboards and automation tools to track file health, identify risks, and uphold quality across the board.
  • Own File Accuracy Firm-Wide: Take full responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of client financials, ensuring nothing leaves the door without meeting our internal standards.
  • Sign Off on Year-End Reviews: Review and finalize year-end packages before submission to external tax partners, ensuring clarity, consistency, and compliance.
  • Support Technical Escalations: Act as the point of escalation for complex accounting matters, offering clear guidance and practical solutions that empower the team to move forward confidently.
  • Mentor & Coach the Team: Provide technical feedback and professional development support to our accounting and bookkeeping staff. Help sharpen their skills and elevate their work to review-ready standards.
  • Train CPA Students: Offer structured mentorship to CPA students on our team, supporting their progress through the practical experience requirements.
  • Flag & Resolve Issues Early: Use our internal review tools to proactively identify potential problems, step in before they escalate, and work with Team Leads to resolve them efficiently.
  • Drive Process Improvements: Collaborate with the leadership team to evolve workflows, document best practices, and scale our quality standards as we grow.
  • Lead with Context & Clarity: Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and learning by modeling transparent communication and thoughtful decision-making.
Who You Are
  • CPA, Designated in Canada: You hold a Canadian CPA designation and bring the technical depth needed to lead complex file reviews with confidence.
  • Experienced in Public Practice or Controllership: You’ve spent at least 5 years working across multiple clients or business units and know how to spot (and fix) what others might miss.
  • Comfortable Leading a Team: You’ve supported, coached, or led a team of accounting professionals before and enjoy helping others grow while holding a high bar for quality.
  • Detail-Oriented Reviewer: You’re methodical, consistent, and sharp when reviewing financials. You care about accuracy and love a clean file.
  • QuickBooks Online Confident: You know your way around QBO and are comfortable operating fully in the cloud.
  • Clear Communicator: You can explain technical accounting issues clearly and are comfortable giving feedback that’s honest, kind, and constructive.
  • Process-Focused Thinker: You’re always looking for ways to improve systems and make good work easier to repeat.
  • Tech-Positive: You’re open to automation and excited to work with internal tools that help raise the standard across the team.
What Success Looks Like

At Agile BK, accuracy, efficiency, and collaboration go hand-in-hand. Success in this role means you’re consistently delivering high-quality technical reviews, guiding the team through challenges with clarity, and using our internal systems to keep files review-ready at all times. You take ownership of the details and support your team in doing the same—raising the bar on what great accounting looks like.

Within 3 months:

  • You’ve fully stepped into the weekly review cycle and are confidently using our internal dashboards and AI review tools.
  • You’ve begun signing off on files and supporting the team through technical escalations.
  • You’ve built strong relationships with Accounting Team Leads and have started mentoring CPA students and accounting staff.

Within 6 months:

  • You’re consistently reviewing and approving complex files, including year-end packages, and addressing issues proactively.
  • You’ve become a go-to technical leader and sounding board for the accounting team.
  • You’ve contributed to internal process improvements and helped level up the quality of work across the firm.

Within 12 months:

  • You’ve helped shape how we review, mentor, and maintain quality as a growing firm.
  • You’re leading training sessions, driving team-wide improvement, and helping CPA students progress through their practical experience milestones.
  • You’re seen as a trusted leader and key contributor to our culture of excellence, clarity, and continuous improvement.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: Earn between $90,000 and $115,000, based on your experience and skills.
  • Leadership Role: A senior position with impact across quality, training, and client delivery.
  • Flexible Time-Off: Recharge when you need to—we trust you to manage your time.
  • Full Benefits Package: Health, dental, and vision benefits included under a Health Spending Account plan.
  • AI-Powered Workplace: Work alongside the future of accounting with tools that actually make your job easier.
  • Career Growth: We’re growing fast, and we want you to grow with us. Leadership opportunities are just around the corner.
  • Professional Development: Conferences, courses, mentorship—if it helps you grow, we’re in.
  • Startup Culture: Fast-paced, flexible, and full of ideas. Bring yours.
  • Team Vibes: A fun, curious, and forward-thinking team that celebrates wins and supports each other.
  • Family-Friendly: We get that life happens. We support flexible schedules, hybrid work, and being human first.
  • Equal Opportunity: We’re committed to building an inclusive environment for all employees.

This is more than a controllership role—it’s a seat at the table of industry change.

You’ll play a central role in how we deliver excellence at scale, while learning how to put AI to work in practical, day-to-day settings—and helping build the tools that will power the next decade of innovation in our accounting industry.
