Tasks

• Operate woodworking machines such as power saws, jointers, mortisers, and shapers to cut, shape, and form parts and components.
• Prepare specifications for custom-made cabinets to maximize storage.
• Shape surfaces or edges of wood workpieces using hand tools like planes, chisels, or wood files.
• Study plans, specifications, or drawings of articles to be made.
• Trim joints and fit parts and subassemblies to form complete units; reinforce joints.
• Sand wooden surfaces and apply veneer, stain, or polish; prepare and apply laminated plastics.
• Apply varnish, veneer, stain, or polish to finished products.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
• Supervise other workers.
• Estimate costs and materials.
• Repair or restyle wooden furniture, fixtures, and related products.
