Job description

The New Brunswick Nurses Union invites applications to fill a permanent, full-time position for a Manager of Finance. The position is located at NBNU Provincial Office, in Fredericton, NB.A leadership position, NBNU’s Manager of Finance will be responsible for managing, controlling, planning, and organizing the processes in both the finance and accounting departments of NBNU. Your primary duties include organizing and planning financial audits, evaluating reporting systems in place and developing new ones, and creating and implementing financial procedures in finance and accounting departments.

The Manager of Finance manages the financial procedures and systems of a company’s accounting and finance departments. You will analyze expenditures and develop realistic budget plans for the organization to maximize the usage of members’ dues. Additionally, the Manager of Finance reports any issues that may affect performance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors. The successful applicant will play a key role in designing and implementing NBNU’s financial sustainability by ensuring that protocols are followed to protect the organization financially.

Duties: Reporting to the Executive Director and working collaboratively with the NBNU leadership team to develop and implement appropriate accounting and financial controls and ensure that these controls are adhered to; develop and maintain financial and accounting policies; be responsible for the development of financial reports as required; prepare, plan, monitor and report on the investment portfolio and activity of the union as required by the union; be responsible for budget planning, preparation, maintenance, ensuring that discussions take place with appropriate stakeholders, that calculations are accurate, and relevant timelines are respected; be responsible to ensure that payables, receivables and payrolls or any other accounting or financial transactions are processed and paid, ensuring that calculations are verified for accuracy and account coding is correct; complete all pension reporting and payments of contribution’ complete all annual T4 reporting; following CRA and WCB requirements and NBNU policy, ensure that the payments to CRA and WCB are prepared and remitted accordingly.

Specific Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Commerce or Business Administration with a major in accounting, a Chartered Professional Accountant designation, and/or considerable experience in the field. Any combination of experience and education may be considered;
  • Proficiency in Sage for accounting and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with scheduling tools, project management platforms, and CRM systems
  • Must have integrity, excellent judgment and problem-solving skills. Must possess a strong work ethic and be able to work independently
  • Experience managing office budgets, overseeing expense reporting; managing payroll, performing year-end responsibilities;
  • Ability to motivate and guide team members while fostering a culture of respect, accountability and excellence
