Economic Development Officer/ First Nations Liaison

The Village of Granisle situated on the beautiful shores of Babine Lake with a population of 337 is seeking a highly motivated individual to market and grow our economic opportunities. Along with this growth will come First Nations engagement and collaboration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote the community's economic well-being while recognizing that a socially and environmentally healthy community is vital to the local economy.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with First Nations on whose territory the Village of Granisle operates.
  • Ensure all economic development and strategic plans align with the current Official Plan.
  • Liaise with Village of Granisle staff to build partnerships between First Nations and the Village of Granisle.
  • Coordinate visits to the Municipality for prospective investors.
  • Respond to requests for support and guidance from Village of Granisle staff and First Nations regarding First Nations relations and activities.
SKILLS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Sound personal judgment, discretion, and credibility.
  • Good problem‑solving skills coupled with solid consensus‑building and entrepreneurial abilities.
  • Ability to identify grant opportunities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of local First Nations.
  • Established relationships with Indigenous Peoples in the region are an asset.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Will report directly to the Chief Administrative Officer and should be able to cultivate and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with elected officials, community groups, staff, and the public.
EDUCATION
  • Experience in the community/economic development field or related knowledge in a parallel field.
  • Proficient in the use of current information technologies.
  • Post‑secondary education in Public Administration or Indigenous Governance is an asset.
  • Must possess a valid BC Driver's License.

This is a permanent part‑time Staff position with a flexible work week of 28 hours per week, with a starting annual salary of $40,000 plus an attractive benefit package after successful completion of the 3‑month probationary period. Successful applicants will be asked to provide a Criminal Record Check.
