Job description

Language requirements: Spanish Level 4-Advanced

Open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada only

General Purpose:

As a communications advisor, you will contribute to the FTA of the IDL by publicising each of the activities carried out by the area, including sentences, court hearings, reports, articles, documents, and pronouncements, depending on their importance.

In this role you will:
  • Coordinate with IDL's communications department to publicise activities in official media and lobby with alternative and mass media in Peru, as well as foreign press correspondents in Peru.
  • Prepare press releases, obtain photographs and videos, write articles, and disseminate them via social networks and media outlets.
  • Translate communication products into English for international dissemination.
  • Broadcast press conferences, forums, and events via Facebook Live or other channels.
  • Participate in meetings and coordinate with team members across locations.

The position is based in Lima, working with a multidisciplinary team focused on issues like human rights, justice, security, environment, and indigenous peoples.

The role of the E-Volunteer:
  • Support the constitutional litigation area's activities and dissemination efforts.
  • Develop creative ways to promote activities on social networks.
  • Manage ALC publications and develop contacts with media and foreign correspondents.
  • Produce communication content and manage webinars and public events.
Qualifications:
  • Professional qualification in journalism or communications, or at least 5 years' experience in journalism.
  • Excellent Spanish and fluent English, both written and spoken.
Essential professional experience:
  • Experience in journalism or NGO communications, with published work.
  • Knowledge of indigenous peoples, environmental issues, and climate change.
  • Proficiency in graphic design and social media use.
  • Experience in photography and short video production, with a portfolio of recent work.
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks.
