Program Overview – Child Care & Family Services (1094 Gerrard Street E, 70 Woodfield Road)
The ECA casual staff are responsible for caring for children in group settings, assisting in planning, supervising, and implementing daily programs. They provide support to children, families, staff, students, and volunteers, demonstrating flexibility, resourcefulness, sensitivity, and respect for individual needs.
What You Will Do
- Guide and care for children, assist in planning and implementing daily programs aligned with Ministry of Education policies, pedagogy, and City of Toronto’s Quality Care Requirements.
- Adhere to Child Care & Family Services policies, the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, and City of Toronto’s AQI, maintaining legal staff:child ratios and collaborating with casual staff during absenteeism.
- Set reasonable limits based on developmental stages, providing appropriate guidance and support both individually and in groups, with extra support when needed.
- Recognize, address, and report unusual behaviors, working with professionals as necessary.
- Work as part of a team, participating in daily program activities with other staff.
- Record daily attendance, manage medical information, and report to relevant personnel.
- Ensure children’s safety, health, and hygiene, including emergency response, health monitoring, and safety checks.
- Escort children outside the center, supervise outings, and ensure safety.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents/guardians, providing updates and assessments.
- Maintain equipment and furnishings, report needs, and contribute to housekeeping and environment upkeep.
- Provide supervision and meet program needs, working scheduled shifts to maintain ratios.
- Report signs of abuse to authorities.
- Foster effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Check outdoor facilities for safety, report hazards, and ensure cleanliness.
- Perform housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, and meal setup.
What You Bring to the Team
- Early Childhood Assistant Certificate or proof of completion of one year of ECE program at a recognized Ontario College.
- Experience in licensed childcare, including practicum placements.
- Valid Standard First Aid/CPR-C.
- Up-to-date health assessment, immunization records, and TB test.

- Physical ability to lift children, stand for extended periods, and work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, noise, and weather.
