Medical Office Secretary
Job Description
Busy academic hospital-based Medical Office specializing in Urogynecology, Female Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery and General Gynecology.
Permanent full-time opportunity for a Medical Secretary within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Urogynecology and Reconstructive Female Pelvic Surgery, supporting one Gynecologic Surgeon (1.0 FTE) located at London Health Sciences Centre (Victoria Hospital). The successful candidate will support the physician's practices in clinical, surgical, office and some academic administration. Primary responsibilities include: all aspects of booking outpatient clinics and investigational appointments; managing telephone calls; scheduling surgical procedures; maintaining wait times for surgery and appointments; supporting medical/surgical OHIP and third-party billing; organizing and maintaining busy surgical office and clinic activities; scheduling of the surgeon's own administrative and educational duties; as well as tracking and arranging patient referrals; following-up on patient appointments and investigational tests.
Essential Qualifications
· Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma or recognized equivalent by the Province of Ontario
· Graduate of a recognized Medical Secretary Diploma program or equivalent
· Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
· Previous experience in an administrative role in a medical office setting
· Excellent understanding of medical terminology
· Demonstrated Intermediate level computer skills particularly with Word, Excel, PowerPoint
· Excellent typing skills, minimum 50 wpm typing speed
· High level of initiative and self-direction required with proven problem solving abilities
· Excellent organizational skills to establish and balance competing priorities in a challenging and diverse work environment (especially in light of recent health care delivery protocols, including telemedicine, as related to the COVID pandemic)
· Superior communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus as well as a positive and professional attitude toward assisting internal or external customers
· Excellent written and oral communication skills and a pleasant telephone manner
· Detail oriented and demonstrated accuracy with the work involved
· Ability to work independently and within a team, especially within a hospital environment
· Demonstrated understanding of OHIP billing and reconciliation procedures; tracking and processing of direct and third-party billing
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working in a Medical Secretary role providing direct support to a Physician with a surgical office
· Experience in booking ORs/working knowledge of SurgiNet as well as Cerner Power Chart
· Experience with Outlook and Acuity Star an asset
· Ensure physician productivity by maintaining calendar, scheduling appointments, physician consultations, and meetings,
· Maintenance of patient records
· Preparation of physician correspondence and manuscripts
Teaching and Research
· London Health Sciences Centre is affiliated with Western University and is a leading research and teaching hospital. As a private office staff working on site at Victoria Hospital you will be involved/exposed to some student teaching and research activities, some CV maintenance through Acuity Star, in addition to clinical duties

Pay: $23.00-$27.00 per hour
