We are currently seeking a GIS Specialist to join our operations in a permanent, full-time position.

The GIS Specialist is responsible for setting up project-specific databases in PostgreSQL and project files in QGIS. They continuously seek process improvements through automation of tasks. They communicate with all departments to enhance efficiency and reduce errors. The QGIS Manager provides tools primarily for the design and permit groups to deliver higher quality results faster. Additionally, they find ways to migrate data efficiently between software such as QGIS, Katapult, and AutoCAD.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Manage GIS and Database Management team;
• Innovate and implement automation scripts to boost productivity, save time, and eliminate human errors;
• Work closely with the Software Development Manager to communicate the needs of different teams using your understanding of telecommunication principles;
• Coordinate with Project Managers and Team Leaders about database extracts and capabilities to streamline workflows;
• Extract data for reports and ensure data quality through manual and automated quality control processes;
• Ensure all tasks meet project timelines;
• Handle last-minute deliverables such as data updates, database queries, and plan generation, with initial execution and team training as needed;
• Oversee creation and updating of project files for efficient GIS work;
• Manage creation and updating of print templates in QGIS for drawing and plan generation.

Additional Requirements

• Pass a criminal record check;
• Authorized to work without visa sponsorship;
• Valid Class 5 Driver's License and a clean driving record.

Experience Required

• BSc in Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering preferred;
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng) licensure is an asset;
• Telecommunications experience or demonstrated competency;
• Project Management experience preferred; PMP is an asset;
• At least 3 years of QGIS or GIS and SQL experience;
• Experience leading large multi-disciplinary teams is preferred;
• Proficiency with Office 365 and Microsoft Projects.
