Job description

Esri Canada has an exceptional professional opportunity for an Applications Specialist working with the Public Safety Team. The Applications Specialist will assist in the implementation of GIS based solutions based on Esri technology.

Reporting to the Professional Services Manager, Public Safety, this role will work closely with the Public Safety, NG9-1-1 Team as a Public Safety data expert on consulting projects, assisting clients with managing their data and workflows for Next Generation 9-1-1. The Applications Specialist performs data analysis and assessment, provides technical expertise on creating and maintaining Public Safety Grade data, contributes to presentations and workshops, and assists in generating reports and proposals. They assist with making recommendations to clients on software platforms and currency and contribute to the implementation of systems, tools, and processes for managing Public Safety Grade GIS Data.

As an Applications Specialist, you will contribute to the ongoing business operations of the Professional Services Team by effectively providing technical knowledge and delivery of assigned consulting projects and other client services. The successful candidate will also provide support for user needs analysis, design, development, and implementation of client solutions.

This role will be based remotely in Canada.

A Day in the Life of an Applications Specialist at Esri Canada:

  • Provide delivery of QuickStart services packages for core ArcGIS technology including Public Safety and NG9-1-1 products and solutions.
  • Review customer data to identify anomalies, errors, and inconsistencies and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Assisting the development team and customers with extract, transform, and load (ETL) and data conversion scripts.
  • Provide Technical Support for customers using Esri Canada’s Public Safety GeoXchange (PSGX) system.
  • Meet with customers to identify business objectives and/or problems that can be solved with a GIS-based solution.
  • Design creative GIS solutions focused on off-the-shelf Esri technology.
  • Install, configure and upgrade Esri technology including desktop, geodatabase, server, mobile and web components.
  • Assist with migration strategies for version upgrades of Esri technology.
  • Provide database design expertise, application support and prototype/proof-of-concept development.
  • Provide Technical writing for scoping, requirements gathering, design and build books.
  • Lead technical workshops and technical knowledge transfer activities.
  • Support project managers with monitoring and controlling technical activities throughout the complete project lifecycle.
  • Assist with the building, testing, documentation, installation, and training of customized applications integrated with Esri products.
  • Work with clients to assist them during the software implementation process.
  • Work closely with project teams to manage client expectations and ensure project objectives are met.
  • Contribute to needs analysis, functional requirements definition, and business solution needs as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals (e.g., RFPs, RFIs and RFQs).
  • Proactively pursue self-instruction on all relevant technical topics.

What you bring to the team:

  • 5+ years’ experience in designing GIS-based systems.
  • Practical experience implementing GIS.
  • ArcGIS Enterprise installation and configuration experience.
  • Experience with data structuring/modeling, application design and consulting.
  • Demonstrable skills developing documentation for system installation, configuration, and maintenance.
  • Advanced knowledge of Esri technology.
  • Experience analyzing and documenting user needs requirements.
  • University degree or technical diploma in GIS or equivalent education and experience.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven ability to meet tight timelines.
  • Excellent customer focus and communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to work on multiple activities and projects simultaneously.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server and/or PostgreSQL).
  • Experience configuring and deploying web applications based on Esri technology and templates.
  • Esri certification in Desktop, Enterprise Administration, Geodatabase Management Experience working on Emergency Management Solutions.
  • Experience with ArcGIS Web Development APIs, Python or Arcade.
  • Ability to travel.

Bonus points for this position:

  • Familiarity with the following Esri Canada NG9-1-1 systems: Public Safety GeoXchange (PSGX), Validator and/or Address Manager.
  • Familiarity with Linux administration, scripting, management tools and containerization.
  • Bilingual fluency in English / French.
