Job description

The Area Division Lead Urology - Regina is a key leader in Saskatchewan health care, partnering with system leaders to achieve our province’s healthcare goals. Reporting to the Area Department Lead Surgery and Area Chief of Staff - Regina, supporting the work of the respective Physician Executive / Vice-President dyad and the Provincial Head, this position works closely with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and health system colleagues in strategy development and achievement by identifying gaps and needs. The Area Division Lead supports strategy through the development and execution of operational and business plans, including cascading, monitoring, reporting, and course correction.

The Area Division Lead demonstrates strong leadership to foster an innovative and positive working climate and a client-centric culture. The Lead must work cross-functionally within the portfolio and organization to support operations and develop partnerships with system and community partners.

The primary purpose of the Area Division Lead is to ensure the seamless integration of academic activities, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical standards within the provincial department, incorporating operational standards into daily work. The Lead supports the Area Department Lead and Area Chief of Staff in credentialing, privileging, and practitioner staff reviews according to Provincial Bylaws, and assists the Provincial Head in fulfilling the department’s provincial mission.

The Lead collaborates with the Area Administrative Structure and department members on operational planning for delivering high-quality clinical services aligned with strategic needs, workforce planning, and development of dyad structures supporting patient value streams, consistent with the SHA strategic plan. The Lead works in a team-based approach with the Administrative Leader in a dyad management team to co-lead planning, programming, strategic direction, and operational oversight for Anesthesiology in Regina.

In partnership with the Provincial Head and College of Medicine, the Lead ensures the academic mandate for teaching and research is supported within the Area.

Job Qualifications
  1. Licensed medical practitioner in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan (CPSS)
  2. Canadian Certified Physician Executive Credential (asset)
  3. Advanced education in Health Care Administration, Public Administration, or Leadership Studies (asset)
  4. Participation in the Canadian Medical Association’s Physician Leadership Institute (asset)
  5. Additional training and/or education in leadership/management (asset)
  6. Experience as a medical leader developing and leading innovative planning and programs in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
  7. 7+ years in progressively advanced leadership roles
  8. Knowledge and experience in guiding health quality improvement processes
  9. Experience working in dyadic leadership roles and relationships
