Job description

Students examine the important issues facing service providers and the successful implementation of a customer focus in service-based businesses. Topics include an overview of services marketing; understanding the customer in services marketing; standardizing and aligning the delivery of services; the people who deliver and perform services; managing demand and capacity; and promotion and pricing strategies in services marketing.

Open Learning Faculty Members are teaching staff in the Open Learning division of TRU, responsible for actively encouraging, supporting, and guiding students toward academic success. They must be skilled in teaching, fully knowledgeable of the subject matter, and demonstrate a positive, open, and caring attitude in all interactions with students.

Responsibilities of the Open Learning Faculty Member (Web) include but are not limited to:

  1. Administrative setup and record keeping.
  2. Initiating and maintaining regular contact with students as specified in the collective agreement.
  3. Responding to all student queries via phone, email, or other appropriate methods within the time frame outlined in the collective agreement.
  4. Marking assignments, posting results, and providing prompt feedback.
  5. Marking exams and posting results.

We anticipate 5 - 15 students in this course per year. These numbers are estimates and actual numbers may vary.

Qualifications

  1. Doctorate degree with a specialization in marketing; a master’s degree with a specialization in marketing may be considered if the candidate has substantial teaching experience.
  2. An ongoing record of research and/or teaching scholarship in the marketing area, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in the past five years.
  3. Proven course facilitation skills in both face-to-face and distance learning environments, including responding promptly and accurately to student questions, coordinating group work, mediating academic or interpersonal issues, and timely marking of assignments and exams.
  4. Experience working with current educational technologies, tools, and Learning Management Systems.

The Open Learning Faculty Member must:

  1. Be knowledgeable and experienced in the course's subject matter.
  2. Have received training or have successful experience in facilitating learning in a collaborative online environment.
  3. Have direct experience with current educational technologies, tools, and Learning Management Systems.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of effective pedagogy in using educational technology and tools.
  5. Show skills in delivering flexible learning materials, applying instructional technology, and adult learning principles.

The pay for Open Learning Faculty Members varies based on factors such as the number of students, work type, course type, and assessments completed.
