About The Role

We’re hiring for a Sr. Data Engineer in Calgary, AB. This role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in architecting and optimizing a modern, scalable data ecosystem that enables teams and partners to derive value from our data assets. You will design high-performance data pipelines, storage solutions, and APIs supporting real-time decision-making.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience in data engineering, proficiency in ETL frameworks, event-driven architectures, and strong API development skills in Go, Java, or Python. Collaboration and mentoring skills are also essential.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Data Architecture & Engineering: Design and build scalable, cloud-native data platforms; develop real-time and batch pipelines; implement diverse storage strategies.
2. Data as a Product: Enable secure, well-documented data APIs; collaborate with teams to define data products; ensure data quality, lineage, and governance.
3. Data Governance, Security, and Compliance: Enforce data privacy and security; implement observability; work with DevSecOps for security integration.

Qualifications

Must Haves

• 5+ years in data engineering, with exposure to Data Mesh and Data as a Product preferred.
• Expertise in SQL, NoSQL, Data Lakes (Azure Data Lake, Delta Lake), and processing frameworks (Kafka, Airflow, Spark).
• Experience with event-driven architectures, APIs, and cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
• Strong API development skills and proficiency in Go, Java, or Python.
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance tools.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation).
• Excellent problem-solving and collaboration skills.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of ML, AI, and data workflows in notebooks.
• Experience with real-time streaming architectures and data monetization.
