Early Childhood Educator - Special Needs

Position: Permanent, Full Time – 40 hours per week

Location: Squamish, BC V8B 0Y7 (On site)

Salary: $45,000 to $60,000 per year (to be negotiated)

Responsibilities
  • Assess children’s development and prepare a learning plan tailored to their needs.
  • Develop and implement child‑care programmes that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children.
  • Encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music and physical activity.
  • Engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs and preparing crafts.
  • Guide children in developing proper eating, dressing and toilet habits.
  • Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods.
  • Observe children for signs of learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisors.
  • Attend staff meetings to discuss progress and problems of children.
  • Administer first aid in emergency situations.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, and education/teaching experience in early childhood special education programmes.
  • Experience: 3 to <5 years working with children with special needs.
  • Certifications: Emergency child care first aid and CPR; Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certificate; First Aid Certificate.
