Job summary

YMCA-YWCA of Vancouver Island is seeking a permanent full-time child care role to provide high quality, inclusive care for children aged 36 months to 11 years on a school grounds setting. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and professional development opportunities, with shifts 7:00am–5:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities include delivering YMCA Playing to Learn curricula, supervising actively, and building strong partnerships with families and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Current ECE license to practice in BC.
  • Special Needs Educator Certificate and/or Infant Toddler Certificate, or related training assets.
  • Experience working with children in a child care setting.
  • Strong written and verbal and communication skills.
  • High level of organization and customer service skills.
  • Current First Aid and CPR required (Standard First Aid with CPR-C within first month).
  • A clear Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required*.
  • A clear Police/RCMP Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required*.

  • Build meaningful and positive relationships with children and families.
  • Work with your team to create a supportive and safe environment for both staff and families.
  • Deliver high quality and age-appropriate programs based on the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum.
  • Provide active supervision at all times and work as a team to support transitions between play areas.
  • Keep a clean and safe environment in all program areas and common spaces.
  • Follow all YMCA-YWCA, Child Care Facility Licensing (CCFL) and curriculum standards.
  • Attend all professional development and training sessions as scheduled.

The PEXSISEN YMCA-YWCA Child Care is on the PEXSISEN Elementary school grounds and offers licensed care for 25 preschool-aged and 50 school-aged children.

Nature and Scope

Working alongside a dedicated team of professionals, you provide high quality, inclusive care and creative programming for children in a group setting. In collaboration with your co-workers and reporting to the Child Care Supervisor, you plan and implement a child-led, play-based curriculum for children aged 36 months to 11 years old. You engage and build meaningful relationships with children, co-workers, families and external stakeholders while ensuring children are well supervised and provded developmentally appropriate, fun choices.

Position: Permanent Full -Time (40 hours per week)

Placement: August 2026

Hours/Shifts: Shifts include 8 hour shifts, Monday to Friday, between 7:00am - 5:30pm

Wage: ECE: $25.37/hour* (plus benefits - see Compensation below)

NOTE: *This position is eligible for an additional $6/hours provided by MECC's ECE Wage Enhancement Program (for qualified candidates).
