Job summary

YMCA Margaret 'Ma' Murray Care and Learning Centre in Fort St. John, BC, is hiring an Early Childhood Educator (ECE). You will provide high-quality care, lead engaging activities, and build strong relationships with children and families.

The role requires teamwork to maintain a safe, welcoming environment and to deliver age-appropriate programs aligned with the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum. The position offers a permanent, full-time schedule (40 hours/week), with shifts 7:30am-5:30pm,

Qualifications

• Basic ECE certification from a BC-recognized program.
• Special Needs Educator (SNE) is an asset.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Any training related to child growth and development is an asset.
• Emergency First Aid and CPR-C & AED certificate required within 30 days of start.
• Three satisfactory references.
• Criminal Record check with Vulnerable Sector search within 6 months of start.

Responsibilities

• Provide quality care and creative programming to children.
• Build meaningful relationships with children and families.
• Collaborate with team to create a supportive and safe environment.
• Deliver age-appropriate programs based on YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum.
• Ensure smooth transitions between play areas as a team.
• Use the Weemarkable app for daily communication and updates.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment in all spaces.
• Follow YMCA and licensing requirements including curriculum standards.

Term: Permanent, Full-Time

Hours: 40 hours per week

Shift: Monday-Friday: shifts will rotate between the hours of 7:30am-5:30pm

Start Date: ASAP

Salary: $31.56 per hour for ECE Certificate (Includes $6 per hour Provincial Wage Enhancement Program)

Nature & Scope

Early childhood educators (ECE, ECE-IT/ SN) at the YMCA ensure a safe and engaging environment for all children. By adhering to the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum, they design, and lead activities tailored to the interests and developmental stages of the children in their care. These educators also cultivate and maintain strong, positive relationships with parents, fellow educators, and community partners to deliver high-quality childcare within the communities we serve.

Major Responsibilities - in this position, you will :

• Provide quality care and creative programming directly to the children
• Build meaningful and positive relationships with children and families
• Work with your team to create a supportive and safe environment for both staff and families
• Deliver high quality andage-appropriateprograms based on the YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum
• Ensure constant active supervisor and collaborate as a team to facilitate smooth transitions between play areas.
• Utilize our parent communication app ( Weemarkable ) toprovide daily communication and updates
• Keep a clean and safe environment – in all program areas and common spaces
• Follow all YMCA, Child Care Facility Licensing (CCFL) and legal requirements, including YMCA Playing to Learn curriculum standards

Qualification - you bring :

• Basic ECE certification from a program recognized in British Columbia
• Special NeedsEducator (SNE) isan asset
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Anytraining related to child growth anddevelopmentis an asset
• Emergency First Aidand CPR-C & AED certificate required (to be obtained within 30 days after the start date)
• Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references
• Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.
