Position Details

• Job Title: Teacher Assistant (Early Childhood Assistant) & Kitchen Assistant
• Type: Temporary Part Time
• Hours of Work: 3 Hours/Day
• Start Date/Term: June 30, 2025 - August 29, 2025
• Reports To: Supervisor, St. John the Evangelist Child Care Centre

Position Summary

Delivers high quality and developmentally appropriate programs for children to facilitate their physical, social, emotional and cognitive growth. Implements programs and activities that promote inclusion and integration of children with special needs. Supports a team environment in the classroom and the Centre. Serves and cleans up lunches, prepares snacks, maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen, and performs housekeeping duties as assigned. This position is based at St. John the Evangelist Child Care Centre - 23 George St, York, ON M9N 2B4.

Responsibilities

1. Supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being at all times, maintaining a hazard-free environment.
2. Assist with planning, executing, and evaluating daily programming using approved curricula to promote children's development.
3. Observe and record children's strengths, challenges, and interests to support individualized planning.
4. Demonstrate positive interactions, communicate effectively with children and parents, and promote independence and problem-solving skills.
5. Participate in classroom setup and manage children's medication schedules and allergies.
6. Serve lunches, prepare snacks, and maintain kitchen cleanliness according to health standards.
7. Assist with laundry and other housekeeping duties as required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an Early Childhood Assistant program or equivalent, with experience working with children including those with special needs.
• Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable).
• Knowledge of ELECT, Play-Based curriculum, and inclusive programming.
• Good communication skills, computer literacy, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, internet, and email.
• Ability to build effective relationships with families, colleagues, and community providers.
• Food Handlers Certificate, WHMIS training, and knowledge of kitchen equipment use.
• Ability to lift heavy objects and perform bending tasks.
• Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check and current First Aid certification.

Salary

Starting at $25.44/hour, with a range up to $25.97/hour.
