Job summary

Jacobs is hiring an Environmental Planner to join our team in a hybrid-office setting out of Burnaby, Western Canada. You will support environmental planning, permitting, regulatory filings, and field programs for infrastructure projects, interfacing with clients and stakeholders while ensuring regulatory compliance.

You’ll collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team, stay current on regulations, and contribute to mitigation planning, technical writing, and field studies.

Qualifications

• Degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology/Ecology, or related field.
• 3+ years of environmental field experience.
• Familiarity with provincial and federal environmental permitting and regulations in western Canada.
• Strong technical writing and high attention to detail.
• Time management to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; client facing.
• Initiative, problem solving, adaptability; works with minimal supervision.
• Strong safety understanding and willingness to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Support environmental planning and permitting throughout project lifecycle with a multi-disciplinary team.
• Stay current with regulations and ensure activities align with environmental standards.
• Conduct desktop reviews to identify potential environmental impacts and assist mitigation.
• Prepare permit inputs, regulatory filings, and environmental management plans.
• Coordinate and provide technical writing support for projects.
• Coordinate discipline-specific environmental field studies.
• Coordinate technical support for environmental alignment sheets.
• Support engagement with Indigenous communities, stakeholders and regulators.
• Be a Safety Leader for the project and promote Jacobs Beyond Zero culture.

Jacobs is currently looking to hire an Environmental Planner to join our dynamic team in a hybrid-office based out of one of our Western Canada offices (Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Burnaby, Victoria). In this position, you will be part our environmental planning and permitting teams. Your role involves supporting environmental components of the design, construction, and operations of infrastructure projects in western Canada, interfacing with clients, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. You will also support our various field programs by performing a variety of tasks including resolving issues and communicating with field staff.

Here's what you'll need

• Degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Biology/Ecology, or a related field.
• 3+ years experience in environmental field.
• Familiarity with provincial and federal environmental permitting, legislation, and regulatory requirements, primarily in western Canada.
• Demonstrated technical writing skills and high attention to detail to provide high quality deliverables.
• Time management skills, with the ability to simultaneously work on multiple tasks and projects and meet project deadlines.
• Great communication skills both written and verbal and willingness to be client facing to grow our planning and permitting services.
• High level of initiative and problem solving and adaptability.
• Demonstrated ability to work under minimal supervision.
• Strong understanding and consideration for safety.
• Willingness to work flexible hours

Ideally, You’ll Also Have

• Experience or knowledge of Indigenous cultural values
• Experience seeing major projects from planning through construction.
• Financial literacy and understanding of managing budgets and schedules.
• The ability to inspire, mentor, motivate, and build respect among colleagues, fostering a cohesive work environment.
