Stantec is seeking an experienced, creative, and motivated Senior Urban Planner – Transportation to support our Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering group in Ontario. The role involves developing and implementing transportation policies, collaborating with stakeholders, analyzing data, and leading project impact assessments through an equity lens. Candidates should have a strong understanding of urban transportation planning principles and good communication skills. You will play a key role in shaping transportation systems to support sustainable growth and development, working collaboratively to develop policies and plans that promote multi-modal transportation and equitable access.

This position will be a casual status opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex transportation planning assignments independently or as part of a team
  • Utilize knowledge of provincial and local planning policies for public sector clients
  • Contribute to transportation planning projects including feasibility studies, environmental assessments, functional plans, and preliminary designs
  • Facilitate public workshops
  • Analyze socioeconomic impacts of transportation infrastructure projects considering equity
  • Leverage experience with Ontario municipal infrastructure delivery processes for strategic planning
  • Serve as GIS lead, ensuring project scope, schedule, and budget adherence
  • Determine optimal geospatial technology approaches and oversee implementation
  • Engage with GIS teams and stay updated on new tools and practices
  • Support multidisciplinary teams of planners, engineers, and designers
  • Analyze and summarize data, including equity, census, crash records, and performance metrics
  • Additional technical skills in urban design, land economics, or public engagement are assets
  • Identify potential project problems proactively

Qualifications

  • Understanding of urban planning, design principles, climate resilience, and development economics
  • Experience in transportation policy development and infrastructure project prioritization
  • Knowledge of transportation engineering, including active transportation facilities in Ontario
  • Experience managing transportation projects from conception to delivery, considering socioeconomic and equity factors
  • Proficiency with GIS data management, analysis, and cartography
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficiency in MS Office and a valid driver’s license
  • Relevant degree in engineering, urban planning, geography, or related fields; Master’s preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of planning experience, especially with Ontario municipalities

Additional Information
