Our client focuses on three main operations : Electrical, Civil Construction, and Engineering & Design. They provide quality solutions to public utilities, municipalities, and developers, as well as to industrial, national, and international manufacturing companies across the GTA.
Health and Safety Person evaluates, monitors, and reports on environmental health and safety hazards from various job sites in the City of Toronto. They conduct field safety inspections daily, perform incident investigations, ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and ensure compliance with all applicable legislative requirements; ensuring overall safety for workers and the public. The Health and Safety Inspector actively participates and maintains ongoing relations with field workers, forepersons, supervisors, and management.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensuring the safety of all workers, forepersons, supervisors, management, and the public on various job sites throughout the City of Toronto by educating and enforcing best safe work practices and application of all rules and regulations.
- Deploy to the job site in the event of an incident to conduct an investigation, including recording statements, photographing incident scenes, identifying root causes, recommending preventive actions, and preparing reports accordingly.
- Conduct documented field inspections for all company job sites to ensure that equipment, materials, and production processes do not present safety or health hazards to employees or the general public.
- Audit safety practices at all organizational levels (worker, supervisory, management).
- Conduct subcontractor and new worker orientation sessions.
- Assist in ordering Personal Protective Equipment for workers, supervisors, and management staff.
- Facilitate in-house training under the direction of the EHS Department Manager.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Completion of a College Diploma or University Degree in a related field; Occupational Health and Safety is preferred.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Field Safety Inspector, Safety Auditor, Safety Compliance Officer, or related role in a large construction company, preferably utility, natural gas, or telecommunications construction.
- Valid ‘G’ Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract required.
- Must have NCSO, CRST, or CRSP designation.
- Extensive knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety rules and regulations for construction, including but not limited to : Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Electrical Utility Safety Association rules (EUSR), and the Environmental Protection Act (EPA).
- Experience working in ISO and COR certified environments is an asset.
- Ability to work outdoors in adverse conditions such as heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to read, comprehend, and utilize company policies and procedures when providing information to internal and external groups.
- Ability to gather, assess, and report critical information to management.
- Proven conflict resolution skills and professionalism in stressful situations.
