About the Opportunity

The Nutrition and Food Services Food Service Worker operates in patient and retail food service settings. Reporting to the Manager or Food Service Supervisor, responsibilities include preparing and serving meals to patients, residents, veterans, staff, families, and customers. They also clean and sanitize trays, equipment, and work areas, supporting safe food handling and service excellence. The role involves various key activities across the site.

Key Work Activities

Responsibilities, with time allocation depending on the site and role, include but are not limited to:

  • Patient Meal Selections (Customer Service): Answering phone calls, entering meal selections on a computer, visiting patients to take orders via electronic tablets.
  • Product/Food Preparation/Assembly and Service: Assembling, portioning, and serving meals and nourishments, preparing 'mix & serve' items, salad and sandwich prep.
  • Delivery and Collection: Delivering meals and supplies, collecting soiled trays.
  • Food Handling: Receiving and storing supplies using FIFO, interpreting diet/meal orders, managing inventory.
  • Menu Duties: Generating and printing menus, reports, labels, and verifying reports between systems.
  • Food Safety and Sanitation: Cleaning and sanitizing dishes, utensils, equipment, maintaining sanitation, proper food handling, hygiene, and storage.
About You

Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications in their application/resume:

  • Grade 12/GED or equivalent, or relevant skills/experience (must be clearly stated)
  • Competency in English and basic Math
  • Experience in a restaurant or customer service (asset)
  • Teamwork skills, ability to meet standards and timeframes, effective communication, civility and respect
  • Multilingual skills, especially French (asset)
  • Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 40 lbs), pushing, and transferring equipment

Employees in the Pot Room may need special footwear, heavy lifting capability, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks independently.
