Job summary

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education is seeking a School Administrative Assistant for Chester Area Middle School. South Shore Regional Centre for Education

Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12 and a community college administrative assistant program, or equivalent
  • Related experience in a public office (preferably in education)
  • Accurate word processing, bookkeeping, and spreadsheet skills, with attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure with deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with the public

Task Dimensions

Prepares correspondence for school administration and staff and circulates as required.

Maintains accurate school accounts and prepares timely payroll, human resource, and student records reports, such as:

  • Submitting regular staff absence and substitute reports
  • Inputting student information into computerized systems and generating reports
  • Reconciling orders, processing funds received, and balancing accounts

Provides clerical support to school administration, including:

  • Maintaining schedules of room and facility bookings
  • Collating morning announcements
  • Scheduling parent-teacher interviews
  • Answering calls from parents and the public, directing them appropriately
  • Notifying parents of early dismissals
  • Submitting maintenance and technology work requests electronically
  • Coordinating bulk supply orders

Provides supportive services directly to students.

Complies with Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Performs other related duties as required.

Background/Security Checks

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hired employees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record/Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. Checks completed within the last 3 months are acceptable.

Regional Office-based positions may require travel, and candidates may need to provide a valid driver's license. Some school-based positions also require travel.
