Under the direction of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the competency guidelines and full scope of practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to agency policies, standards, and unit-specific protocols.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience

• Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN registrant.
• Perinatal positions require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus breastfeeding course, or (b) one year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required.
• MHSU positions require additional education as specified by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
• Hip and Knee Clinic positions require two years of recent, related surgical and preadmission clinic experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills and Abilities

• Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with residents, families, co-workers, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
• Deal effectively with others.
• Organize work and implement care plans.
• Demonstrate the knowledge and competencies to work at full scope of practice as required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, including medication administration.
