Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope - (214208)

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. Continuous quality and safety improvement are inherent in this position.

Under the supervision of the Manager or designate and as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Licensed Practical Nurse, Full Scope, performs assessments, plans and provides personal care, and executes nursing procedures. The nurse operates within the full scope of practice outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, adhering to agency policies, standards, and unit protocols.

Qualifications:
Education, Training, and Experience

Must be registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing LPN.

  • Perinatal roles require either (a) completion of a perinatal education program plus a breastfeeding course or (b) at least 1 year of recent (within the last 2 years) acute perinatal experience. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within the past 2 years is also required for perinatal positions.
  • MHSU roles require additional education as specified by BCCNM for practice involving Mental Health and/or Substance Use disorders.
  • Hip and Knee Clinic roles require two years of recent, relevant surgical and preadmission clinic experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Effective verbal and written communication with residents, families, colleagues, multidisciplinary team members, and the public.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Organizational skills to plan and implement care.
  • Competence to work at full scope of practice, including medication administration, as required by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.
  • Ability to operate relevant equipment.
  • Physical capability to perform duties of the position.
