Mission

The City of Edmonton selected Marigold Infrastructure Partners to design and build the 14-kilometre Valley Line West LRT project from downtown to Lewis Farms. Construction began in 2021. Marigold is a design-build joint venture agreement between Colas and Parsons. We are looking for an experienced Survey Crew Chief. The ideal candidate will be in a working role, wherein the individual will direct and plan the work of other team members while completing their own daily tasks, providing guidance and troubleshooting as necessary.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Provide construction layout and engineering survey services.
  2. Conduct topographic surveys, engineering surveys, and as-built surveys.
  3. Building and structural layout and structural quality control surveys.
  4. Earthwork surveys and earth volume and cut-fill management surveys.
  5. Collect field data using various survey instruments.
  6. Oversee QC of data collection, ensuring that field notes and daily downloads are complete.
  7. Assist with unplanned or unexpected discoveries and complete the task ad-hoc, whilst completing all documentation and follow through.
  8. Set expectations for crew and assign responsibility as project needs dictate.
  9. Take accurate, clear, concise field notes and be able to complete rapid calculations.
Requirements
  1. 3 years’ experience as crew chief and 8 years’ experience in surveys.
  2. Experience and knowledge of operating robotic Total Stations and Windows-based data collectors, GNSS technology, and other data collection technologies.
  3. Minimum 2 years’ construction surveying experience.
  4. Experience and knowledge operating GPS equipment.
  5. Experience using MS Office software; AutoCAD Civil 3D experience an asset.
  6. Completion of a 2-year minimum college program in geomatics technology or equivalent combination of relevant work experience.
  7. Proficient in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting conventional and GPS survey equipment.
  8. Comfortable with static control surveys, high-precision layout work, and 1st order leveling techniques, or willing to learn.
  9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and follow-up.
  10. Excellent problem-solving skills.
  11. Unwavering commitment to environmental health and safety in the workplace.
  12. Willing to mentor and train other colleagues.
  13. Willingness to work in either field or office settings in any type of Alberta weather and able to complete field reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  14. Valid Class 5 driver’s license, preferably with a clean abstract.
  15. Valid applicable safety tickets (Confined Space, Fall Protection, Aerial Lift) an asset. Training can be provided.
  16. Complete accountability and oversight for field survey work as assigned.
  17. Complete site communication accountability.
  18. Full accountability and ability to support, direct, and assess Location Management and Survey Standards.
  19. Equipment maintenance, control, repair, and inventory accountability.
  20. Completion, interpretation of, and execution of Project Manager field direction.
  21. Data collection and field measurement downloading and accuracy.
  22. Advanced calculation skills and angle/distance measurement.
  23. Ensure the completion of Field Hazard documentation and assessment.
  24. Responsible for own safe conduct within the field and for identifying and rectifying any hazard and/or unsafe working situation.
  25. Municipal engineering and land development projects an asset.
  26. Familiarity with sewer, water main, dirt survey, earthworks, and road construction materials, methods, and processes.
  27. Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  28. Must be able to transport and carry up to 50 lbs. of field gear and able to negotiate terrain on in-progress build sites.
  29. May be asked to work afternoons and weekends on a rotational basis.
  30. Sound judgment and able to make good decisions on your feet.
  31. Ability to negotiate the terrain of an in-process construction site, including climbing stairs and ladders, steep/slippery terrain, walking, and working outdoors in all types of Edmonton weather and conditions.
