The Opportunity: Resource Planning Engineer
Permanent, Full-Time position, based out of Whitehorse, Yukon.
Who we are
Yukon Energy is the primary generator and transmitter of electrical energy in the Yukon territory, operating within the Traditional Territories of Yukon First Nations. We take pride in our commitment to sustainability and collaboration with Indigenous communities across all our operations.
What will you do:
- Evaluate current and future electricity generation capacity and energy needs for the Yukon Territory, using data-driven forecasting to inform long-term plans.
- Develop and implement resource planning strategies that balance supply and demand, enhance grid stability, and optimize operational efficiency.
- Conduct economic and technical analyses of generation resources—modeling scenarios, performing load forecasting, and assessing costs to support capital investment decisions.
- Collaborate with operations, environmental, regulatory, and stakeholder teams to integrate sustainable energy solutions and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Work within the Traditional Territories of Yukon First Nations, recognizing and respecting the communities we serve.
What You Need To Succeed
- Degree in Engineering from an accredited university program; electrical or power systems engineering experience is an asset and capable of obtaining a Professional Engineer designation in Yukon Territory.
- Experience in resource planning, preferably in the power utility sector.
- Experience with energy modeling and optimization software tools for resource planning.
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered.
- Ability to plan, manage, and prioritize work to meet commitments aligned with organizational goals.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret complex and sometimes contradictory data effectively.
- Make timely, well-informed decisions to keep the organization moving forward.
- Ability to anticipate and balance the needs of multiple stakeholders.
- Build partnerships and collaborate effectively with others to meet shared objectives.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage conflict situations effectively.
- Quick learner when facing new situations and capable of learning from mistakes.
- Identify and create processes to facilitate work with a focus on continuous improvement.
Compensation:
