As a (Senior) Backend Engineer in the Payment & Billing team, you will play a key role in developing and optimizing our payment infrastructure and billing systems. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to enhance the checkout experience, ensure secure and reliable transactions, and support various payment methods for our global customer base. This role gives you the opportunity to influence the direction of our payment technology and shape the customer experience at a critical touchpoint.

As our (Senior) Backend Engineer - Checkout & Payments, you will...

• design, develop, and maintain backend APIs and services with a focus on payment processing, billing, and checkout flows
• integrate and manage connections with payment gateways and third-party providers, ensuring smooth and reliable transactions
• optimize payment systems for performance, security, and scalability to handle high-volume transactions
• collaborate closely with the frontend, product, and customer support teams to improve user experience and troubleshoot payment-related issues
• work with the team to build our own managed payments solution, bringing highly integrated and automated payment solutions to our customers

We are looking for candidates that...

• have strong expertise in backend development, focusing on payment processing, billing systems, or checkout experiences
• are proficient in at least one backend programming language (like TypeScript, Go, or Java)
• have 5+ years of experience in a backend engineering role, preferably with payment and billing integration experience
• are experienced in working with payment gateway APIs (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree), checkout integrations, or billing systems
• have a solid understanding of NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and message queues
• provide knowledge of data security and privacy standards related to payment systems (e.g., PCI-DSS)
• are familiar with cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud) and containerization tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• display excellent communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and attention to detail
