Job description

Physician – Occupational Health Services, TELUS Health

Location: Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta

Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (40 or 20 hours per week)

Contract Length: 2 years, with an optional 6-month extension

Job Summary:
TELUS Health is recruiting an experienced physician to provide onsite occupational health services for safety sensitive positions. The role involves conducting health assessments, managing disability cases, providing expert medical advice, and ensuring the health and occupational fitness of employees .

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in weekly case conferences to provide professional medical consultation and advice.
  • Conduct in-person and virtual meetings with employees to assess medical profiles, recommend treatments, and make external referrals when required.
  • Review medical files, including periodic health assessments, in order to make fitness for work recommendations
  • Assist clients with determining (medical) benefit approval.
  • At the client’s request, be prepared to provide expert testimony or response to the Human Rights Commission or applicable Courts.
  • Attend and make presentations at client meetings and/or training events.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from a recognized Canadian university or an unrestricted license with the Medical Council of Canada if educated abroad.
  • Active license as a Physician in Alberta and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
  • Minimum of 3 years of cumulative full-time experience as a physician (excluding residency).
  • Experience in disciplines such as Family Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Occupational Medicine is preferred.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong ability to work within multidisciplinary teams and provide consultative medical advice.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and disability management protocols.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deliverable deadlines.
  • Adherence to client’s policies, including their codes of conduct.

Working Conditions:

  • The primary location will be working on-site with the client and their employees in either Edmonton or Calgary, Alberta.
  • Operating hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with occasional after-hours or weekend work.
  • Travel may be required between Edmonton and Calgary .

Compensation:

  • Competitive hourly rate.
  • Reimbursement for authorized travel and living expenses per the National Joint Council Travel Directive.
