To excel in this role, you should demonstrate initiative and ingenuity, while:

  • Leading key decisions with consulting firms
  • Communicating effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assessing risks and opportunities in proposals
  • Supervising comprehensive and detailed estimates

This position requires strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrated in client and personnel relations, as well as excellent presentation abilities. As an experienced electrical design manager, you must work independently in a complex and fast-paced environment, managing multiple projects and clients. You should possess excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to prioritize tasks. Above all, you must be willing to learn and contribute to the team.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading integrated electrical funding and procurement projects (AFP)
  • Reading and understanding specifications and drawings for competitive bidding
  • Communicating effectively with stakeholders, clients, and partners
  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to optimize efficiency and pricing
  • Ensuring project schedules and deadlines are met
  • Working with consultants on system layouts and estimation decisions
  • Understanding the impact of design decisions on building operations
  • Producing accurate cost estimates based on material and labor counts

  • Staying current with industry codes and standards
  • Participating in bid reviews and meetings
  • Developing new business opportunities
  • Providing mentorship and technical support to junior staff

Qualifications include:

  • At least five (5) years of electrical engineering experience in construction, with a degree in electrical engineering or related training/experience
  • Professional engineering degree in Ontario or British Columbia, or an engineering degree in Quebec, is a plus
  • Experience with design-build/P3 projects, especially in healthcare, including distribution, fire alarm, and lighting systems

Candidates must attach a detailed project list to their CV. Experience in design-build, particularly in P3 projects, and familiarity with low-voltage systems (security, IT, nurse call) are desirable. Knowledge of relevant codes (NBCC, OESC, CSA, NFPA) is required. Ability to travel for meetings is necessary. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with experience in Accubid Pro or Enterprise, AutoCAD, and SGN specifications considered assets.
