Description

The Director of Construction is responsible for the overall planning, budgeting, organization, direction, health & safety, and execution of all NexGen construction activities. This includes ensuring safety and quality standards are met and projects are delivered on time and within budget. The scope encompasses all surface and underground facilities, site development, temporary work, mining, processing, and related infrastructure.

This role involves leading the development of constructability and construction strategies, planning, and overseeing organization, scheduling, and execution. The position is based in Saskatoon with travel to project sites as needed.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Managing an integrated project team of construction managers and personnel.
  2. Providing leadership to uphold high standards in constructability and construction execution during all project phases.
  3. Ensuring health & safety and quality assurance are integrated into all construction aspects.
  4. Developing construction strategies, plans, schedules, cost estimates, and risk assessments.
  5. Preparing and coordinating construction reports and KPIs.
  6. Reviewing and approving engineering and construction deliverables.
  7. Managing oversight of self-performed work and integrating services into the overall plan.
  8. Collaborating with the IMS team to establish procedures and objectives.
  9. Proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  10. Interfacing with project leadership, HR, and community to ensure involvement strategies are implemented.
  11. Participating in industrial relations and maintaining good relations with unions.
  12. Developing site organization and staffing plans aligned with schedules and budgets.
  13. Keeping project leadership informed of construction issues.
  14. Coordinating the development and implementation of the Construction Execution Plan.
  15. Facilitating turnover of completed facilities to pre-commissioning teams.
  16. Working with environmental and permitting teams to ensure compliance and obtain necessary permits.

Education and Experience

  • Engineering degree or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • At least 20 years of leadership and construction management experience in mining projects.
  • Strong focus on health and safety management, with extensive knowledge of related procedures and legislation.
  • Proven leadership in strategic planning, resource management, and coordination.
  • Skilled in planning, organization, leadership, and administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of complex projects, including engineering, procurement, and construction activities.
  • Experience with both surface and underground construction, including process facilities and infrastructure.
  • Experience managing large, remote EPCM projects in the resource sector.
  • Ability to mentor senior staff and provide construction leadership.
