Qualifications

  • 5+ years of industry experience required.
  • Experience with Intel processor architectures and legacy systems is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other engineering groups.

Job description

As our Hardware Engineer , you will be responsible for sustaining products related high-performance embedded computing platforms.

You have a strong background in embedded hardware design ; you are also resourceful and able to overcome new challenges using insightful design and engineering skills coupled with innovative approaches. In a nutshell, we need your sharp expertise to help sustain our embedded hardware products, implement product enhancements and contribute to process improvements.

  • Create, maintain and release new product variant configurations
  • Provide support for hardware design enhancements, PWB respins, customer modifications
  • Coordinate the development, review and release of fabricated items (I.e. Drawings, PWB, Metalwork etc.) for existing, new and modified products.
  • Generate complete and accurate user and design documentation
  • Provide support for component obsolescence replacements
  • Provide task breakdowns and accurate estimates for task planning
  • Participate in technical investigations and trouble-shooting
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team

What You Bring

  • Excels at debugging complex hardware issues, such as identification of component malfunction or performance drift, signal integrity, switching power supply configuration & debug, memory debug, digital noise isolation / filtering, thermal design performance, intermittency, design vs. component operating marginality
  • Recognizes patterns & trends; can respond with improvements
  • Can modify or extend existing hardware designs; can re-qualify existing hardware designs
  • Can research and validate replacements for obsolescent components and characterize behavior & performance
  • Work with firmware and software developers to determine root causes
  • Document findings comprehensively & accurately in technical reports (Word, PowerPoint)
  • Can work independently or collaborate with other engineering groups including : electrical, mechanical, component, quality, manufacturing, production test and software
  • Aggressively pursues success; goal-oriented; schedule-conscious; takes initiative; responsible
  • Enjoys continuous learning as new technologies and products are engaged
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Technologist Diploma or equivalent will be considered
  • 5+ years Industry experience
  • Experience in the following is an asset :
  • Open system standards such as VME, VPX, PMC, etc. for rugged applications
  • Leading-edge Intel processor & NXP / Freescale architectures as well as legacy architectures
  • Experience with DDR3, DDR4, QDR-SRAM, SATA, USB, FPGAs, PLDs
  • Signal integrity analysis tools and measurement
  • Experience with product configuration management
  • Experience with hardware debugging tools – analyzers, scopes, emulators
  • Experience with design capture tools (preferably Mentor Graphics)
