Job description

Position Purpose:

Tool Rental Service Technicians are responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of equipment in the tool rental department. Providing outstanding service to customers by ensuring equipment is reliable and properly maintained is the key responsibility of this position. Service Technicians must have thorough knowledge of all tools and effectively manage the tool inventory by maintaining and repairing tools as necessary. This position also involves forecasting and ordering parts for repairs, using a computer to process transactions, training Tool Rental Associates on tool operation and service, performing maintenance duties (e.g., keeping work area clean and organized), and acting as a Sales Associate on the floor.

Position Responsibilities:

1. Perform preventive maintenance on tools.
2. Forecast and maintain an adequate inventory of parts for repair.
3. Use manuals, vendors, etc., to diagnose problems and restore equipment.
4. Clean, inspect, and prepare tools for rental to customers.
5. Ensure tools are repaired and available for rental promptly while minimizing costs.
6. Process tool rental transactions (log repairs and work orders, generate contracts, take deposits, convert contracts into invoices upon equipment return, etc.).
7. Train Tool Rental Sales Associates on tool operation and minor repairs.
8. Assist customers by providing information and answering questions.
9. Ensure rental equipment is properly displayed, signed, and maintained.
10. Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on all equipment.
11. Demonstrate working knowledge and hands-on experience with all department products.
12. Operate cash register and follow related procedures.
13. Maintain a high level of knowledge of all tools, including maintenance, repair, ordering parts, and proper usage.
14. Analyze information to recognize potential problems, identify causes of equipment issues (e.g., loose parts, misuse), and propose solutions.
15. Provide outstanding customer service.
16. Follow safety expectations outlined under The Home Depot Canada Environmental Health & Safety Management system.

Experience/Knowledge Required:

• Minimum time in position and performance management code requirements of V2 (or P3 in previous system).
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Knowledge of policies, procedures, and duties related to customer service.
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of tools, including maintenance, repair, ordering parts, and proper usage.
