Founded in 1918, CNIB is one of Canada’s oldest charities. For more than 60 years, CNIB Lake Joe has been providing exciting, safe, and accessible camp experiences for Canadians with sight loss. CNIB Lake Joe is looking for a Facilitator, Music & Recreationto help us bring the magic of summer camp to life for ‘kids of all ages’ with sight loss, and their families!

  • Energetically facilitate a variety of inclusive music and recreation programs (i.e., campfire sing along, talent shows, group music instruction, drama activities, games, etc.) for our participants through an online platform.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of special programs and events (i.e., Camp-in-a-Box).
  • Act as a host for virtual programs (i.e., monitors chat, mute / unmute, partake in record keeping and call outs, etc.).
  • Assist in the promotion of virtual programs via social media.
  • Be able to work flexible hours if necessary.
  • Create a memorable and enjoyable experience for all participants.
  • Help make CNIB the organization of choice for volunteers – promoting the commitment to the Culture of Volunteerism and volunteer engagement at every opportunity; support volunteers as required.
  • Exhibit and promote the organization’s core values; foster an inclusive, empowered culture where every team member – staff and volunteer – feels their contributions towards our mission are equally valued and respected.
  • Champion CNIB’s high standards of participant and customer service, ensuring they are upheld across all aspects of local operations to ensure the best participant experience and customer satisfaction.
  • Respond to and resolve participant complaints pertaining to program delivery and operations of the CNIB Lake Joe; elevate to supervisor as required.
  • Consult with supervisor on issues deemed to require upper-level approval.
  • Consult with team on decisions required for special projects and program development.
  • Provide leadership and distribute work to volunteers.

Education and Certifications

  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of music.
  • Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; uses tact and diplomacy in working with participants and the public.
  • Good relationship / team building and skills; approachable.
  • Demonstrated decision making skills; self-directed.
  • Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills; proactive in initiating projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Extensive knowledge of Zoom and / or video conferencing software. Mature and professional attitude.
  • A self-starter who is organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Musicianship and / or experience with a musical instrument(s) is considered an asset.
  • Experience in camp and / or recreation programs is considered an asset.
  • Current (within 6 months of start date) Vulnerable Sector Screening Police Record Check is required.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and / or accessible environments is considered an asset.
