Qualifications

Job description

Forge Recruitment is currently partnered with our client, a national firm, in the search of a Labour and Employment Legal Assistant to join their growing practice in their downtown Ottawa office. The firm, one of Canada's leading firms, focuses on the representation of management in human resources law and advocacy, acting for over 1000+ employers in the public and private sectors.

About the Role

  • Drafting pleadings and preparing motion records, book of authorities, and affidavits of service
  • Arranging for filing of court documents and booking examinations for discovery
  • Entering and maintaining lawyers' dockets and coordination with the Accounting department for billings
  • Entering, updating and generating documents (ACL)
  • Liaising with courts and tribunals
  • Maintaining lawyers' emails and calendars – booking appointments, including coordination of Zoom / Team meetings and setting up of conference calls
  • Maintaining and organizing physical and electronic files
  • Providing legal administrative support to lawyers by drafting, preparing, and proofreading
  • Preparing and updating cheque requisitions and expense reports
  • Supporting and providing coverage for absences
  • Other tasks as assigned

What You Bring

As the ideal candidate, you possess 3+ years' experience supporting a labour / employment law practice. You are versed in the Rules of Civil Procedure and have a familiarity with arbitration and collective bargaining procedures, along with the OLRB (considered an asset). You possess excellent technical proficiency with the use of the entire MS Office Suite, a Document Management System (DMS), InterAction, and ACL.
