Job description

District Trades Technology & Careers Transitions Teacher Coordinator

The District Trades Technology & Careers Transitions Teacher Coordinator is a member of Innovative Learning, working under the direction of the Director of Instruction, Innovative Learning or designate. The coordinator collaborates with district and school teams, post-secondary institutions, provincial affiliates, and community employers to support, develop, and maintain an equitable, inclusive, and effective trades training and dual credit program in School District No.8.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Support, develop, maintain, and promote a comprehensive Trades Training & Dual Credit program.
  2. Act as a program and curriculum team co-leader with school teams, including counsellors.
  3. Develop and maintain positive relationships with local post-secondary institutions.
  4. Liaise with Skilled Trades BC youth provincial program.
  5. Monitor and supervise students in trades training and dual credit programs, including Youth Trades Training and Trades Sampler.
  6. Establish an intake process, support applications, facilitate transitions, and supervise students for trades training and apprenticeship programs, including three-year trades graduation plans.
  7. Support integration of trades training and dual credit scholarships with CLC 12 and Capstone 12 programs.
  8. Meet and liaise with school teams, local employers, and post-secondary partners.
  9. Support audit processes and ensure efficient tracking of students, including database entry.
  10. Promote inclusive practices with an equity lens to ensure barrier-free access to programs.
  11. Teach as required, supporting programs like Trades Sampler and Skills Explore.
The trades training and dual credit program includes:
  • Youth Train in Trades
  • Youth Work in Trades
  • Youth Skills Explore
General Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Facilitate goals and strategies aligned with the Framework for Enhancing Student Learning and the District Strategic Plan.
  2. Incorporate First Peoples Principles of Learning.
  3. Ensure barrier-free access to trades training and dual credit programs from an equity perspective.
  4. Liaise with stakeholders to secure training opportunities.
  5. Organize engagement events and career fairs.
  6. Analyze data, ensure audit compliance, and support student success through various district processes.

Schedule:

Flexible, with travel within the district as required. Schedule adjustments will be determined by the Director of Instruction or designate.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Professional teaching certificate recognized by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care
  • Red Seal qualification preferred
  • Exemplary leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and consultation skills
  • Valid BC Driver’s License
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
  • Five years of school-based teaching, including at least two in a career and trades program
  • Master of Education Degree or equivalent with coursework in the area of responsibility
  • Extensive knowledge of trades and career programs and current issues
Reporting Structure:

Accountable to the Director of Instruction of Innovative Learning, with direct supervision from the District Principal of Innovative Learning Services.
