About Us
The Brenda Strafford Foundation (BSF) is a charitable organization that currently owns and operates five Aging Care & Senior Living communities in Calgary, AB, and Okotoks, AB. We take pride in providing a safe, caring, and comfortable home environment that caters to the complex needs of our senior residents and families.
Locally, in Calgary, BSF also operates Alberta’s largest second-stage shelter providing safe shelter and comprehensive support services to women and children leaving abuse and violence.

The Role
Are you passionate about cooking, working in a dynamic environment, and providing exceptional care to residents? The Brenda Strafford Foundation is looking for a talented
Chef/Cook to join our team! If you thrive in a fast-paced kitchen and are dedicated to creating quality meals for residents, we want to hear from you!
Administrative
- Supervise and assist with daily meal preparation, including special diets.
- Set up kitchen equipment for efficient meal delivery and serve meals with attention to quality and presentation.
- Manage inventory, order food, and monitor supplies.
- Perform regular safety checks, maintain cleanliness, and track kitchen temperatures.
- Attend meetings and contribute to safety and well-being initiatives.
Supervisory
- Work with the Cook/Kitchen Supervisor and Dietitian on menu planning, food storage, and purchasing.
- Supervise and train kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to procedures.
- Provide mentorship, feedback, and support for performance development.
- Step in for staff coverage as needed and assist with team performance discussions.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure kitchen and dining areas comply with Alberta Health & Safety standards.
- Implement infection control protocols and ensure proper hygiene practices.
- Oversee safe use of chemicals and equipment.
- Promote a culture of safety and resident well-being.
Organizational Behaviour
- Foster a positive, respectful work environment and manage conflict effectively.
- Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality and advocate for residents’ well-being.

Who We're Looking For
Education & Experience:
- Required:Two-year Cook Diploma/Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution (Desired)
- Preferred:Red Seal Certification (Desired)
- Experience:Minimum of two years as a Cook or Chef. Experience in healthcare or a similar setting is anasset.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Flexibility in role and responsibilities, adaptable to the needs of the team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
- Ability to perform heavy duties, including standing, lifting, and repetitive movements.
