Job description

Position Overview

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of Island Health (Vancouver Island Health Authority), patient and staff safety is a priority and a shared responsibility. The continuous improvement of quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting and Responsibilities

Reporting to the supervisor and under the general supervision of a radiologist, the MI Generalist Sonographer performs general ultrasound examinations. Responsibilities include:

1. Receiving and completing requisitions, forms, and reports.
2. Preparing and monitoring supplies and equipment.
3. Monitoring patients.
4. Operating ultrasound equipment and preparing patient data for review by radiologists.

Qualifications

Education, Training, and Experience

• Graduation from an approved Ultrasound Technologist Diploma program.
• Certification from Sonography Canada and/or the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Generalist Sonographer.
• One (1) year of recent, related experience in a healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Eligibility for registration with Sonography Canada.
