Position and/or Project Description:

Seeking to hire a Cyber Security Specialist for professional contractor services. The role involves supporting and enhancing our cybersecurity posture through the implementation and monitoring of advanced security controls across on-premises and cloud environments. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with industry standards, proactively identifying cybersecurity risks, and mitigating them. This is a full-time, on-site contracted position.

Mandatory Education/Certifications:

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Security, or related fields; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in IT security or cybersecurity operations, including security monitoring and incident response.

Desired Education/Certifications:

  • Relevant professional security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, GIAC, or vendor-specific credentials like Microsoft Certified: Azure Security Engineer Associate are highly desirable.

Mandatory Experience:

  • Experience with cloud and enterprise security technologies, especially Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, and vulnerability management tools like Tenable One. Proficiency in PowerShell, JSON, KQL, Logic Apps, or similar languages.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST, ISO/IEC 27001/27002, and CSA standards. Experience with incident response methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess and respond to security risks, analyze logs, alerts, and forensic data.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada Level II (Secret) Security Clearance, requiring a thorough background check.

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in regulated or critical infrastructure sectors, including energy utilities or nuclear industries, especially with SCADA/ICS environments.
  • Excellent communication skills to articulate cybersecurity risks and strategies to diverse audiences, with proven teamwork and mentoring abilities.

Deliverables:

  • Incident investigation reports and lessons learned documentation.
  • Vulnerability assessment reports and remediation tracking.
  • Security posture metrics, including Azure Secure Score dashboards.
  • Compliance documentation aligning with NIST CSF, ISO 27001, and CSA standards.
  • Updated security artifacts such as policies, procedures, diagrams, and system security plans for nuclear projects.
