Senior Oracle DBA Consultant – Advisory Services
As part of the Advisory Services organization, the role of the Senior Oracle Database Administration Consultant will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Oracle RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance for our clients. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining multiple clients on various Oracle versions, ensuring operational readiness (security, health, and performance) for clients with Oracle databases on-premise and/or in the cloud. The candidate must be capable of working independently and collaboratively.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Engage continuously with the assigned client base.
- Manage new customer transition, administration, and maintenance plans.
- Maintain continuous communication in a consultative approach.
- Install and optimize the performance of database servers.
- Develop processes to enhance database security.
- Set and uphold database standards.
- Perform performance tuning and troubleshooting of database systems.
- Install, upgrade, and manage database applications.
- Diagnose and resolve database errors.
- Recommend and implement emerging database technologies.
- Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards.
- Automate repetitive database tasks.
- Be available for on-call support.
- Consult on additional opportunities.
- Review operational metrics.
- Advise sales teams on current and future opportunities within their client base.
- Build a knowledge base, document, and develop standard operating procedures for each customer’s Oracle database architecture.
- Uphold company policies and procedures.
- Perform additional related responsibilities as requested.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum 8 years of production database support experience.
- Proven experience with database replication techniques, complexities, automation, monitoring, and high-availability strategies; use of third-party solutions is encouraged.
- Experience working with Systems Admins in storage, backups, and database operations is preferred.
- Ability to excel in a collaborative environment and own all database-related activities.
- Experience with Oracle Multitenant (CDB/PDB).
- Working experience with Golden Gate (desired).
- Working experience with RAC.
- Experience with ERP systems on Oracle databases (JDE/E1 desired).
- Experience in disaster recovery and Data Guard setups.
- Experience working on UNIX, Linux, and Windows platforms.
- Public Cloud Oracle database experience with OCI required (OCI certifications desired).
- Public Cloud Oracle database experience with AWS desired (AWS certifications desired).
- Proficiency in backing up and restoring databases.
- Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Monitor and optimize cloud database performance.
- Understand services consumed by each client’s organization.
- Deep understanding of the value of client data and measures to protect it.
- Build and maintain high-performance, highly distributed data pipelines.
- Explore internal and external threat sources.
- Automate common management tasks.
Essential Functions
- Design, document, and monitor database servers.
- Develop standards and procedures for database maintenance and modification.
- Provide systems architecture guidance for high availability systems.
- Guide capacity planning, performance improvement, and storage management in collaboration with other resources.
- Plan and support major architectural changes.
- Develop backup and recovery procedures, including testing data integrity.
- Perform proactive and reactive performance analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Assist business functions in delivering timely business metrics data.
