Duties and Responsibilities
General Duties:

Works under the supervision of the Chief Operating Engineer (1st Class) and the Shift Engineer (2nd Class).

Operating Duties:
  • Assist in operating the campus cogeneration (future), boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and related equipment.
  • Test and adjust chemical feed rates for boiler water, make-up water, and condensate to prevent corrosion and maintain system integrity.
  • Conduct daily rounds and maintain logs for chillers and associated equipment.
  • Report issues and participate in their resolution.
  • Investigate issues during quiet hours.
  • Adjust control settings and equipment for safe and efficient operation.
  • Participate in daily maintenance of the Central Heating Plant.
  • Perform seasonal cleaning of chillers, cooling towers, and related equipment.
  • Maintain water treatment and testing for cooling towers and chilled water.
  • Provide relief duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Operating Engineer or delegate.

Education and Experience

Typically acquired through:

  • Third Class Engineer's certificate.
  • Within 2.5 years, obtain a Second Class Operating Engineer's certificate.
