Work Arrangements:

You will work from your home office 100% of the time. You may be required to be in-person at our Waterloo, ON office or another location within the Waterloo Region, as needed. Sales roles may require travel.

The Opportunity:

Equitable is seeking a Senior Underwriter to join our Individual Insurance team. The role involves risk assessment for life and critical illness products and offers a chance to develop your skills at Waterloo Region’s Top Employers.

Responsibilities:
  1. Apply comprehensive underwriting expertise across medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
  2. Maintain high-quality work standards.
  3. Manage daily work volumes independently to meet service standards.
  4. Deliver a first-class client experience.
  5. Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, consumer regulations, and reinsurance treaties.
  6. Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting processes.
  7. Mentor other underwriters by sharing expertise and guidance.
Qualifications:
  1. Strong technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
  2. Ability to adapt in a dynamic work environment.
  3. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  4. Strong reinsurance relationships and negotiation skills.
  5. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  6. Proactive and service-oriented relationship skills.
  7. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter.
  8. FLMI / FALU designation or currently pursuing it.
  9. Commitment to ongoing learning about medical knowledge and industry trends.
  10. Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
