Fort McMurray Catholic Schools is seeking a temporary Educational Assistant to work in various schools.

Qualifications

• Educational Assistant Certificate or Diploma

Responsibilities

• Support students' growth in cognition, communication, physical, and social development.
• Support and/or implement teacher-directed programming.
• Collaborate with teachers, CST, and a multi-disciplinary team.
• Implement strategies from specialists (OT, PT, SLP, etc.) to meet goals.
• Apply behaviour management and educational strategies to facilitate learning.
• Communicate effectively with students using age-appropriate positive reinforcement and behaviour strategies.
• Observe student behaviour to achieve positive outcomes and prevent negative behaviours.
• Provide structured support to help students achieve learning outcomes.
• Work and play at the student's physical level.
• Support the use of adaptive and learning technologies.
• Implement the Positive Behaviour Plan (PBP) if required.
• Understand and support modified curricula.
• Support students with Autism or complex medical needs.
• Physically handle and transfer students when necessary and safe.
• Lift and move students as needed.

Employees may work with behaviours related to conduct, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, stress, severe depression, feeding/eating disorders, ADHD, emotional/behavioural, learning, and speech & language disabilities, among others.
