We provide housing and a range of support services to adults with low or no income who have few, if any, housing or support options. Location
Days and Hours of work
  • 7 days a week, day, afternoon/evening, and overnight shifts, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • Shifts are 7.5 hours in length
  • Days of rest shall be consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice
  • Probationary / qualifying period will be 488 hours with mid and end point reviews
  • Night premium will be given to staff working 50% or more of their shift between 00:00-08:00 hours

Salary: $27.92 - $29.60 depending on applicants' seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Shelter Resource Worker (SRW) reports to the Site Manager and works in accordance with the mission and philosophy of Lookout Housing and Health Society, including following Lookout’s Code of Ethics. SRWs are direct service staff working within a 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless adults facing issues such as homelessness, addictions, and mental health. Responsibilities include providing intakes, orientations, support, and connecting guests with community services.

Job Duties
  • Support, supervise, and assist homeless adults facing multiple barriers
  • Accept referrals, share information about external resources
  • Refer guests to community services
  • Interview guests, provide basic necessities, ensure a safe environment
  • Complete records and maintain data
  • Support others in the shelter needing assistance
  • Assist new staff
  • Perform complex job duties, may involve disagreeable factors
  • Contribute to health and safety programs
Qualifications & Competence
  • Related Certificate or minimum Grade 12 education plus 2 years of relevant experience, or equivalent
  • Familiarity with community resources (addiction, mental health, income assistance, harm reduction)
  • Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate
  • Crisis Intervention Skills (CPI), Naloxone, Trauma-Informed Practice training (asset)
  • Ability to work independently or in a team
  • Strong stress management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Maintain client/worker boundaries
  • Experience working with disadvantaged adults in diverse environments
  • Strong physical and mental ability to perform tasks and operate equipment
  • Minimum of 2 years sobriety if relevant
  • Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector
