Location

20-minute walk from Stadium-Chinatown Skytrain Station

Work Schedule

• 7 days a week, including day, evening, and overnight shifts, on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• Shifts are 7.5 hours each
• Consecutive days off; schedule may change with two weeks' notice
• Probation period : 488 hours with reviews
• Night shift premium for shifts ≥50% between 00 : 00-08 : 00

27.92 - $29.60, based on seniority (per Collective Agreement)

Job Summary

The Shelter Resource Worker (SRW) reports to the Site Manager and works in alignment with Lookout’s mission, ethics, and policies. SRWs are frontline staff in a 24 / 7 emergency shelter for homeless adults facing issues like homelessness, addictions, and mental health challenges. Responsibilities include intake, orientation, support, and connecting guests to community resources.

Key Responsibilities

• Support and supervise homeless adults facing multiple barriers
• Accept referrals and share information about external resources
• Refer guests to community services
• Conduct interviews, provide basic necessities, and ensure a safe environment
• Maintain records and statistical data
• Assist other shelter staff and new team members
• Adhere to health and safety protocols

Qualifications & Competencies

• Related certificate or minimum Grade 12 plus two years of relevant experience, or equivalent
• Knowledge of community resources (addiction, mental health, income support, harm reduction)
• Current Occupational First Aid Level 1
• Optional : CPI, Naloxone, Trauma-Informed Practice training
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Strong stress management and organizational skills
• Excellent communication and documentation skills
• Ability to work with diverse and challenging populations
• Physical and mental capacity for work tasks and equipment operation
• Minimum two years of sobriety if relevant
