Your impact
We are looking for an enthusiastic Transportation Functional Designer who thrives on providing innovative mobility solutions. You’ll work on exciting transportation projects for our public sector clients across Canada. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement from home and from one of our offices (Burnaby, Toronto, Ottawa, or Calgary), with occasional travel for client and team meetings.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Lead or contribute to transportation/transit conceptual and functional design projects, including project scoping.
- Coordinate with local authorities, transit agencies, and stakeholders to ensure project alignment and support.
- Generate alternative design options and provide technical assessments of their costs and benefits.
- Facilitate discussions with agency stakeholders on design tradeoffs for multimodal users.
- Develop sketch-level concepts and direct CAD designers.
- Provide QA/QC in accordance with relevant guidelines and standards.
- Stay updated with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities, challenges, and risks for clients.
- Represent Jacobs at industry events such as conferences and webinars.
- Build and maintain client relationships, and contribute to proposal development to secure new work.

Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Transportation.
- Licensed P.Eng. or the ability to obtain this designation within 6 months.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in transportation (public or private sectors).
- Experience in planning, design, and management across various transportation areas, including multimodal streets and intersections accommodating pedestrians, bicycles, micromobility, transit vehicles, and trucks.
- Experience in project evaluation, including MAE, business case development, and benefit-cost analysis.
- Strong communication, time management, and report writing skills in a collaborative environment, with the ability to work independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of road safety concepts, including collision modification factors for design improvements.
Ideally you’ll also have
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Microstation, AutoTURN, Bluebeam, and Projectwise.
- Experience across the project lifecycle: preliminary, conceptual, functional, detailed, and O&M.
- Familiarity with guidelines and standards from AT, BC MOTT, MTO, etc.
- Knowledge of transportation project development processes in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario.
- Advanced technical writing skills and data visualization abilities.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

- Passion for mentoring and empowering staff.
- Existing effective client relationships and the ability to foster new ones.
Salary Range
Minimum: $133,900.00
Maximum: $202,510.00
