CHILD AND YOUTH INSTRUCTOR

Position Type: Temporary Full Time

Number of Positions: One (1)

Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division

File Number: SV24-168

Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre

Hours: Between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM Monday to Friday and 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday, approximately 2-10 hours per week

Employee Group: Non-Union

Salary: $18.56 - $21.68 per hour

Closing Date: May 22, 2025 at 4:30 PM

Purpose and Scope

As a member of the Community Services Department, this position provides participants with opportunities to acquire new knowledge and skills in recreational activities through effective teaching in a friendly, engaging, and caring environment. The anticipated start date is July 2025 until August 2025.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Represent the City of Belleville professionally, demonstrating appropriate actions and conduct.
  2. Ensure the safety and supervision of participants, following departmental and external organization rules and regulations.
  3. Plan, develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate activities to ensure successful programs.
  4. Maintain knowledge of participants’ names and health conditions/modifications; record attendance each class.
  5. Complete and submit all required administrative forms (lesson plans, injury reports, supply requests, etc.) as per departmental procedures.
  6. Address issues proactively and provide excellent customer service.
  7. Assess and respond to emergencies, completing necessary reports as per procedures.
  8. Handle, maintain cleanliness of, and report damages or losses of equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  9. Attend scheduled staff meetings and training sessions as required.

Note: The above duties are representative and not exhaustive.

Required Qualifications
  1. Enrolled in high school or equivalent.
  2. Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  3. Satisfactory Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Check.
Asset Qualifications
  1. Post-secondary education in child/youth-related fields is an asset.
  2. High Five, Healthy Child Development certification.
  3. Coaching/Instructing Certification (e.g., National Coaching Certificate).
