Are you ready to take the next big step in your culinary career? Café Boulud is looking for a Sous Chef who shares our passion for food and cooking and is willing to learn from and contribute to our culinary team. Our Sous Chef will be a key leader of a dynamic culinary team providing memorable culinary experiences to our guests This position reports to the Executive Café Boulud Chef.

About the role:

The Café Boulud Sous Chef is responsible for supervising the day-to-day running of the Café Boulud kitchen in the Hotel, overseeing the Junior Sous Chefs, and reporting to the Executive Café Boulud Chef. They will assist the Executive Chef to select, train, evaluate, lead, motivate, coach, and discipline employees in the restaurant to ensure that established cultural and core standards are met; short & long-range strategic planning for respective outlet operation. They will assist to control labor and operating expenses through effective scheduling, budgeting, purchasing decisions, and inventory control while focusing on creative revenue generation solutions to maximize profit.

What you will bring:

We are looking for talented individuals who have a solid knowledge of food and are passionate to develop their management skills within the hotel industry, have creativity and flair and the ability to provide guidance to others, and are able to evidence good business acumen and a strong work ethic. Attendance for training and special events is required.

Additional preferred skills and abilities:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of supervisory or managerial kitchen experience with a diversity of culinary experience and a proven track record in fine dining
  • Valid Food Handler's Certification
  • A college degree preferably specializing in hotel/restaurant management or business administration, or equivalent experience
  • Experience managing within a unionized work environment is an asset
  • The ability to operate computer equipment and several other computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English
  • Additional language a definite asset for career growth
