The Ministry of Finance oversees taxation, revenue, and government spending. The ministry supports the Treasury Board and the Minister of Finance by providing financial and administrative services and leadership to government ministries, agencies, and the public. The Revenue Division of the Ministry of Finance is responsible for administering several provincial tax programs including the Provincial Sales Tax, Liquor Consumption Tax, and Corporation Capital Tax.
The Opportunity
The Audit Branch of the Revenue Division, Ministry of Finance, has an exciting and challenging leadership opportunity for a professional, energetic, and innovative individual with strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills to fill the key role of Audit Manager.
This is an opportunity to provide leadership in an area critical to the province's consumption tax system and work with a diverse tax client group, business organizations, and other government jurisdictions in pursuing Saskatchewan tax policy and revenue objectives.
Middle managers have a critical role in employee engagement and the culture of our organization. Reporting to the Director of Audit, your leadership will be required in translating and cascading strategic direction into operational actions contributing to the achievement of our goals that serve the residents of Saskatchewan.
In this position, you will:
- Support the development, direction, and execution of strategic planning and operational plans by leading strategy implementation;
- Assign resources and prioritize work utilizing risk-based analysis to achieve audit objectives;
- Manage projects of varying scales and schedules, ensuring successful concurrent execution;
- Enable individual performance of auditors and supervisors on your team, ensuring adequate resources and motivation to achieve success;
- Manage teams and relationships by creating an environment of trust, equity, and strong workplace culture;
- Foster a client-centered approach throughout the team by aligning objectives to ensure delivery of quality client services to citizens; and
- Manage information and administration of policies and procedures.
Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will be an experienced professional who has:- Proven experience in developing and executing operational plans, with a strong focus on effectively allocating resources based on risk analysis to achieve organizational goals;
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to guide a team in a dynamic work environment;
- Solid understanding of compliance, particularly with tax legislation and policy, and applying complex legislation and regulations;
- Effective financial management skills related to program budgets and resources;
Typically, the knowledge and experience required to achieve the above is acquired through:- The completion of a university degree in Business Administration or Commerce with a focus on Accounting, combined with work experience in a similar role. Successful completion of the CPA professional accounting designation would be an asset;
- Previous experience in a supervisory/managerial role, preferably in a government or public sector setting;
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and/or accounting experience;
- Knowledge of compliance and/or taxation would be considered an asset;
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong project management skills ensuring successful execution of initiatives of varying scales, financial requirements, and schedules;
- Ability to adapt to evolving priorities and contribute to the strategic growth of the division; and
- Experience using a variety of computer software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
